Fashion Shoot - Ariel | Clapboard Ad Archive
Ariel’s Fashion Shoot, developed by Saatchi & Saatchi Stockholm in Year 2011 for Procter & Gamble Nordic, reset expectations for consumer engagement in the household products market with a confident embrace of public spectacle and digital interactivity. The premise was as clarion as it was bold: take the familiar yet often unconvincing demonstration of stain removal, disarm it of filmed artifice, and shift it to the heart of Stockholm Central Station behind the unambiguous transparency of a glass box. For one week, passing commuters became an impromptu audience for a procession of designer garments hung out on a washing line and repeatedly soiled in real time, with ketchup, drinking chocolate and lingonberry jam serving as challenging, high-visibility adversaries to Ariel Actilift’s cleaning claims. The campaign’s true innovation, however, lay in bridging the physical and social spheres — with the public not simply watching tests, but actively participating via the brand’s Facebook page, where users could remotely control an industrial robot, target the swaying couture, and land their own marks. This hybrid activation transformed a classic Demonstration into an experiential digital challenge, giving users the tangible thrill of staining real clothes and the reward of receiving the garments, laundered by Ariel, through the mail. With the power of social-driven participation fueling real-world consequences and a flawless execution across physical event, real-time broadcast, and online competition, what Clapboard’s taxonomy classifies as FORMAT#1—Demonstration became a masterclass in immersive proof of product performance. The campaign was further amplified by strategic media placement through Mediacom, production by B-Reel and B-Reel Films, and PR support from MSL Nordic, resulting in over 100,000 campaign views that reinforced Ariel’s core proposition with a live, shareable proof that migrated seamlessly from station floor to Facebook newsfeed. Clapboard rates this 82/100. By making the demonstrative claim a participatory event, Fashion Shoot signaled a shift in how legacy FMCG brands could reimagine product performance as social spectacle and public play, setting new terms for credibility in an age of experiential branding.
