Put Bacon back on the map

Church’s Chicken’s campaign “Put Bacon Back on the Map” leverages a unique cultural and historical narrative to reinforce the brand’s connection to Texas roots and identity. The brand proposition centers on authenticity and regional pride, positioning its new Texas Cut Bacon Chicken Sandwich as not just a menu item but a bridge to local heritage. By linking the product to the story of Bacon, Texas—a town erased from maps nearly 100 years ago—the campaign conveys a promise of honoring tradition and delivering flavors that resonate deeply with Texan consumers. This approach emphasizes the quality and distinctiveness of the sandwich’s ingredients, particularly the bacon, as an embodiment of Texas flavor and spirit. Strategically, the campaign taps into a highly targeted insight: the strong emotional and cultural ties Texans have to their local history and food heritage. Rather than competing directly in the saturated “chicken sandwich wars,” Church’s differentiates itself by championing a meaningful cause—reviving the legacy of Bacon, Texas. The creative angle combines storytelling with experiential marketing, as the brand physically embarks on a road trip to the original Bacon site and San Antonio, fostering community engagement through on-site activations and petition drives. This multi-layered activation not only creates buzz around the limited-time sandwich but also mobilizes audiences to participate in a shared mission, enhancing brand affinity. The campaign’s narrative approach broadens the appeal beyond product features to emotional connection, making the new offering a symbol of local pride and collective action within the food category.
